The DS Hurghada is aiming for operating sustainable and environmental friendly as much as it is possible and being responsible for resources. Therefore we implemented the „no plastic“ concept which is stressing the importance of avoiding one way plastic and replacement of plastic with environmental friendly materials. Thats why we exchanged in a first step one way water bottles into re usable water gallons.

Further on, plastic office material were exchanged to wooden alternatives. For plastic rulers of the students we started an exchange project: every student who gave us his/her ruler got from us a wooden one with DSH logo. We handed over the plastic ones to students of a national school for special needs. In the Nursery and pre school the toothbrushes and toothbrush mug were exchanged to bamboo brushes and metal mugs.

In Autumn 2018 250 additional trees were planted on the school premisses, mainly for converting CO2, but also to provide more shadow places for the students. In cooperation with he environmental organization HEPCA we organized work shops with our students as well as with students from other schools in Hurghada in the cultural center CC Red Sea. In addition, every first Saturday of the month, island clean ups are organized. At the end of the academic year 2018/19 an environmental project week will take place to increase the awareness of the necessity of caring about our environment.
